If you are using Terminal or Remote Desktop Server (Windows 2008 and 2008 R2), you can update the default from 16-bit to 32-bit by
- Administrative Tools > Remote Desktop Services > Remote Desktop Session Host Configuration.
- Double click RDP-Tcp in the Connections box.
- Select Client Settings
- Under Colour Depth untick Limit Maximum Colour Depth.
- Icons will display the next time the connection is run
