The first step in any manufacturing process is designing the Manufacturing Bill Of Materials (MBOM). The MBOM makes sure that all the components specified in the Engineering BOM for a Product have been considered and it is possible to carry out material planning with accuracy. An incomplete BOM can cause production delays and bottlenecks, waiting for even a seemingly small part. Therefore, it is very important to have the MBOM reviewed rigorously and also kept updated continuously for changes in design specifications, material specifications, substitutions etc.

In CREST ERP, you can find the Create BOM link on the Bill of Materials home screen.

Click the link to open the BOM creation screen.

You should first choose the Primary Product, the parent item for which a BOM has to be created. To add a Component item, find the item first.

The Quantity of the Component required for making one unit of the finished product should be specified.Sequence No shows the priority for an item in Workcenter Routing. The From Date is the date from which this Component will be used in the product and the Thru date is the date beyond which it will be dropped. This is a good way to phase out a component and introduce a substitute from a specified date, without the need to ‘remember’. Use the Reason box to record the purpose and importance of the part. Instruction can help workers with the exact manner in which the component has to be used in the product, such as bolt tightening instructions.
