In this example, we demonstrate how to improve water quality treatment in BMPs, using the same methods employed in earlier examples for managing runoff from a 29-acre residential development. We focus on removing total suspended solids (TSS) at the detention pond (Example 3) and filter strips/infiltration trenches (Example 4). We’ve downsized the Example 3 pond to account for reduced runoff due to upstream infiltration trenches. TSS removal in the pond follows an exponential function, while in filter strips and trenches, it’s a fixed percentage reduction.
