While Example 1 demonstrated a hydrologic model for urban runoff, it didn’t include hydraulic routing. In Example 2, we’ll use SWMM’s hydraulic features to model a surface drainage system. We’ll add a conveyance network to the post-development model from Example 1, sizing it for 2-hour synthetic storm events with 2-, 10-, and 100-year return periods. This network will use open channels for flow conveyance. The approach developed here will be expanded upon in Example 7, where we’ll add more channels and underground pipes designed with standard drainage criteria.
