Introduction

The Lifeguard Safety ambassador is a lifeguard position that is mainly responsible for public relations and preventative actions with pairing children with their parents, assisting other lifeguard in educating patrons of South Bank of the rules and regulations of the pools and surrounding parklands and educating patrons of potential hazards in the area i.e. the pool depth.

Procedure – Main Pool

The Lifeguard Safety Ambassador starts the shift by having a quick brief with Lifeguard 9. Lifeguard 9 will let the Lifeguard Safety Ambassador know of any poor swimmers, any problem areas to concentrate on and where to mainly base themselves.

The Safety Ambassador would then base them self in the particular area asked by the Lifeguard 9, whether it being in the water in main pool / Boat Pool, around the main lagoon, or filling in a lifeguard post when there is a first aid going on. The lifeguard position is very flexible, and the Safety Ambassador can be based where ever needed. The Safety Ambassador will take direction from Lifeguard 9 as to when they are able to take their breaks and can stay in a particular part of the pool for as long or as short as needed.

For the time that the Safety Ambassador is on duty they are a roving lifeguard that when water based will be able to assist other lifeguards if patrons are jumping and diving, unsupervised children and non-swimmers, or covering a post while a major first aid is happening.

The Lifeguard Safety Ambassador is to adhere to the policy in regarding talking to other lifeguards and lifeguard placement around the lagoon – LGS SB 5.4. Lifeguard Positions is not to casually talk to the other Lifeguards on duty.

The Safety Ambassador and Lifeguard 9 are to adhere to LGS SB 4.4 Restricted Shifts if there is low populations or poor weather.

Procedure – Boat Pool Weir

The Lifeguard Boat Pool Safety Ambassador starts the shift at 11am by having a quick brief with Lifeguard 9. Lifeguard 9 will let the Lifeguard Safety Ambassador know of any poor swimmers and any problem areas within Boat pool. The Safety Ambassador would then base them self on the Boat Pool weir. The lifeguard position is very flexible, and the Safety Ambassador can be based wherever needed.
The Safety Ambassador will take direction from Lifeguard 9 as to when they are able to take their breaks rotating it in with the other lifeguards on deck.

Busy Period Extra Safety Ambassador Procedure

Per the previous procedures, the Lifeguard Safety Ambassador starts the shift with a quick brief with Lifeguard 9. Lifeguard 9 will inform the Lifeguard Safety Ambassador of any poor swimmers, problem areas to concentrate on, and where to base themselves. However, they will also be working alongside a second Safety ambassador for a period during their shift

The two Safety Ambassadors will take turns overseeing various positions within the pool, patrolling opposite ends. The role of the Safety Ambassador is highly adaptable, allowing them to be stationed wherever their presence is most needed. Lifeguard 9 provides guidance to the Safety Ambassador, indicating when breaks are feasible and whether they should relocate to cover a Lifeguard on Deck, respond to a water rescue, provide First Aid, offer break coverage, or attend to matters at the boat pool weir.

Throughout their duty, the Safety Ambassador functions as a mobile lifeguard. In water-related situations, they can lend support to fellow lifeguards dealing with issues such as patrons engaging in jumping or diving, supervising unsupervised children and non-swimmers, or temporarily covering a post during a significant first aid incident.
