  • The donga at Bucasia has a padlock with code #2011, inside will be the Lifeguard radio which is the one with the yellow tape on the antenna. Text Lifeguard Supervisor when radio network unavailable.
  • ABSENT STAFF TO BE REPORTED TO SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY
  • The password for the phone is 7873 “surf”.
  • Arrive at Bucasia.
  • The container key is for the Lifeguard Service only and should be kept within the Lifeguard Service. The Lifeguard on duty is responsible for all keys/cards if lost or damaged. The Lifeguard must contact the Lifeguard Supervisor immediately and possible fees for replacements may occur.
  • Prepare to set up e.g. get into uniform, sign onto LIMSOC ect.

OPENING
09:00am- 10:00am
  • Check and test equipment – First Aid kit, Oxygen Kit, De-fib, Spinal Board and other rescue aids placing them in locations as per patrol setup – refer to Lifeguard Operations Manual
  • Make sure the beach area is presentable and once in order – OPEN
  • Place the rest of the patrol equipment in designated areas as per Lifeguard Operations Procedure.
  • CLOSE BEACH IF REQUIRED and carry out beach set up for No Swimming.
  • Log immediately on LIMSOC of closure per Opening and Closing Procedures.
  • STINGER SEASON – Perform drags as per Marine Stinger guidelines. 1st November – 31st May
  • Radio MUST be in a wet pack, warn and on at all times along with correct PPE.
  • Check radio operation and signal strength.
  • Log Immediately on LIMSOC of closure per Opening and Closing Procedures
  • Report any faulty equipment to Lifeguard Supervisor immediately.
STINGER SEASON
Change of Tide
And 16:00pm
  • STINGER SEASON – Perform drags as per Marine Stinger Guidelines. 1st November – 31st May.
  • Radio MUST be in a wet pack, warn and on at all times along with correct PPE.
  • Check radio operation and signal strength.
  • Log immediately on LIMSOC of closure per Opening and Closing Procedures.
  • Report any faulty equipment to Lifeguard supervisor immediately.
As per roster
16:45pm
  • Make announcement via PA/loud hailer to all beachgoers that the Lifeguard Service will be finishing at 5pm. The beach will be unpatrolled and swimmers will be swimming at their own risk.
    Example:
    “Attention all beach users. Please be advised that the Mackay Lifeguard Service will be closing the beach over the next 10 minutes. Once the Red and Yellow flags are removed their will no longer be any Lifeguards on duty. Swimming is not recommended after this time. Tragedies do occur on unpatrolled beaches. This beach will reopen tomorrow morning at 9:00am. Thank you, have a nice evening.”
  • Gather all gear and equipment for washing/cleaning and store neatly in designated area within Gear Trailer.

17:00pm
  • Sign out – Sign off LIMSOC of closure per Opening and Closing Procedures.
  • Text Lifeguard Supervisor when radio network unavailable.
  • Turn off lights before leaving; secure the club, donga and tower, double check all doors and windows including the tower windows are closed and locked. Return keys to appropriate locations as no keys should be taken home.
DAILY DUTIES
  • Lifeguard daily diary to be filled out as day progresses and incidents occur. Supporting statements must be filled out immediately after reports and attached to respective reports.
  • Gather rubbish from Rockpool and surrounds – place in rubbish bins.
  • Maintain public relations and educate patrons of regulations, laws and rules
  • Maintain security of shed & office
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Report all situations that require assistance
  • Check First Aid kit, communication equipment, rescue equipment, stretcher/ board and other rescue equipment report any repairs required or equipment for re-stock to NBB Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Routinely check and report on toilets/showers during opening hours.
  • Re-stock First Aid supplies as required.
  • Gather lost property, log and forward to Roving Lifeguard.
  • Carry out other duties and complete within time given as instructed by NBB Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • All gear and equipment used each day is to be cleaned/maintained thoroughly before packing away in a neat and tidy fashion in the tower.
  • Any gear & equipment that is damaged, missing or inoperable is to be reported to the NBB Lifeguard Supervisor immediately.
