Introduction
All Radio communications and usage is as per the SLSA Training Manual. This is however subject to changes relative to the Riverway Precinct Communication System. These changes and policies are as follows:

Radios (Handheld)
- Handheld radios to be always turned on whilst in working hours.
- If a radio is not working satisfactorily or there is damage to the unit or aerial, it must be reported to the Lifeguard Supervisor and/or Riveway 1 for replacement and/or repair this can be done by noting in Daily Diary, Spiceworks or via an email to Lifeguard Supervisor.
After the day’s use the following procedure should be carried out:
- Ensure radios are clean and free of any moisture.
- Check battery level.
- If set fails to operate efficiently report to Lifeguard Supervisor/Riverway 1.
- Ensure unit is not left on before placing on charge
- Place radio in charger and ensure that red light is on.

Lifeguard Radio Identification Policy
Lifeguards employed with the Riverway Service are to use the following system which coincides with that of the Security contractor who also work on the TCC radio: CH6

Other Relative Information
- Security services go by the call sign of ‘Riverway Security’
- The library goes by the call sign ‘Riverway Library’
- When communicating between parties only 1 Call sign is to be relayed “Tower 1 this is Tower 2”. “Tower 2, this is Tower 1, go ahead”
- When other contract services are trying to contact the Lifeguards, they are to simply ask for ‘Lifeguards’ and the Lifeguards themselves will determine who is to answer (Lifeguard 1) i.e. “Security, Security this is Lifeguards”.
Radio Language
It is to be known that the following abbreviations are to be used when communicating over the radio. This is to include using the phonetic alphabet when giving names or letters. i.e Alpha is ‘A’.
