Introduction
On a Sunday Afternoon, Monday long weekends and mid-week public holidays over the volunteer season, PLSLSC finish patrolling duties at 3pm. The Lifeguard service takes over these duties for the remainder of the afternoon until close. Lifeguards are to arrive at 2:45pm for the start of the changeover.
Procedure
Catch 12:55pm water taxi from Cleveland (Stradbroke ferries) (if required) or alternatively organize a time with the other lifeguard that you will be working with. (No later then 12:55pm). Key for truck will be in agreed hiding area. Drive to Adder Rock shed, and pick up necessary gear –
- 2x rescue boards
- Cylinder boxes (logbooks) (gear) (radios x4) (bum bags)
- 1x soft packs
- 1 set of occy straps
- 1x jet ski (conditions pending if second jet needs to be picked up)
- 1x tent
- 1x esky (needing ice from surf club)
- Max tracks and shovel
Drive to main beach after collecting all the gear.
- Fill up esky with ice
- Turn on work phones
- Drive to cylinder beach
Lifeguard to talk to patrol captain about what gear is needed on beach, conditions and any incidents.
Gear that needs to stay on the beach:
- 2x red and yellow flags and bases
- 2x board rider signs
- 1 danger no swimming sign
- 1x board tube holder
- 1x conditions board and yellow flag (yellow caution/hazard diamonds)
- 2x tubes
- Defib
- Yellow boat launching sign and witches’ hats
