TIME AS PER ROSTER MONDAY – FRIDAY 09:00 (9am) START – 17:00 (5pm) FINISH SATURDAY 09:00 (9am) START -13:00 (1pm) FINISH
START 09:00am
  • Collect Forest Beach SLSC club house keys form pre-determined location (changes seasonally) as instructed by NBB Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Radio Sign on (text Lifeguard Supervisor when radio network unavailable) with Townsville Roving Lifeguard/Surfcom comprising signal report only.
  • Sign on LIMSOC (In stinger season sign on LIMSOC with ‘dragging’ status).
  • ABSENT STAFF TO BE REPORTED TO NBB LIFEGUARD SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY.
  • Place Rescue Board and Tube stand on beach with vinegar.
  • Check and test equipment.
  • First Aid & Soft Pack, communication equipment, rescue equipment – Spinal board, and other rescue aids placing them in locations as per patrol setup refer Lifeguard Operations Manual & Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Place no swimming flags outside net during Mod-High risk stinger season Nov – May/June.
STINGER SEASON
  • Gear up & do Irukandji sample drags. Check all sides of net for holes – as per Uninet guidelines.
  • Checking boom and netting first and anchoring points.
  • Secondly check hoses, cap lines and pumps.
  • Check net is not buried from sand (especially before moving).
  • Remove debris, sticks & logs from net and surrounds.
  • Set chains/net to reflect sea conditions.
  • Close beach if required.
  • Make sure beach area is presentable and if all is in order OPEN Place patrol equipment out in designated areas.
  • Once all completed stand Red & Yellow flags if beach open.
  • CLOSE BEACH IF REQUIRED & Carry out beach set up for No Swimming.
  • Contact Supervisor and follow instructions for duties required that day.
  • Enter in LIMSOC Conducting stinger drag /Open /Closed.
  • Continue to enter stats in to LIMSOC as required.
DAILY DUTIES
  • Lifeguard daily diary to be filled out as day progresses and incidents occur. Supporting statements must be filled out immediately after reports and attached to respective reports.
  • Gather rubbish from beach and surrounds – place in rubbish bins.
  • Maintain public relations and educate patrons of regulations, laws and rules
  • Maintain security of Forrest Beach SLSC and equipment.
  • Check all notice boards in SLSC
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Remove debris, sticks and logs from stinger net and surrounds
  • Inspect nearby creeks and drains for possible debris and erosion problems
  • Report all situations that require assistance
  • Carry out net inspection as close to low tide where possible
  • Check First Aid kit, communication equipment, rescue equipment, stretcher/ board and other rescue equipment report any repairs required or equipment for re-stock to NBB Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Routinely check and report on toilets/showers during opening hours.
  • Re-stock First Aid supplies as required. Gather lost property, log and store.
  • Carry out other duties and complete within time given as instructed by NBB Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Always lock Forrest Beach SLSC Club house when not inside
  • Chains need to be set regularly and make sure net does not get buried.
  • All gear and equipment used each day is to be cleaned/maintained thoroughly before packing away in a neat and tidy fashion in the clubhouse.
  • Any gear & equipment that is damaged, missing or inoperable is to be reported to the NBB Lifeguard Supervisor immediately.

  • Enter LIMSOC stats
STINGER SEASON 16:00
  • SET NET FOR TIDES (If wind strength is less than 15kts, end of net must be as close to water’s edge as possible.) AND SET CHAINS FOR PREVAILING WEATHER CONDITIONS AS PER UNINET MANUAL.
  • Secondly check hoses, cap lines and pumps.
  • Report any faults to Uninet and Supervisor immediately.
16:45 (5pm)
  • Gather First Aid box, communication equipment, rescue equipment – spine board, and other rescue aids placing them in HUT as per Lifeguard Supervisor instructions.
  • Check, test and clean equipment.
  • Re-stock First Aid supplies as required.
  • Place communications equipment on chargers.
17:00 (5pm)
  • Conduct radio sign-off with Townsville Roving Lifeguard/Surfcom.
  • Sign-off LIMSOC.
  • TURN OFF LIGHTS BEFORE LEAVING: SECURE AND LOCK SURF LIFE SAVING CLUB.
  • Place portable radio and LG I-phone on charge.
  • Return Forest Beach SLSC club house keys to predetermined location (changes seasonally) as instructed by NBB Lifeguard Supervisor
