Arrive at Hut. Prepare to set up & for radio sign on
Sign on LIMSOC and radio check with SURFCOM
STINGER SEASON 09:15
Gear up & do sample drags Check all sides of net for holes –as per Uninet guidelines Checking boom and netting first and anchoring points.
Secondly check hoses, cap lines and pumps.
Check net is not buried from sand (especially before moving) Remove debris, sticks & logs from net and surrounds.
Set chains/net to reflect sea conditions Check radio operation and signal strength.
Close beach if required.
STINGER SEASON 09:45
Make sure beach area is presentable and if all is in order OPEN Place patrol equipment out in designated areas.
Once all completed stand Red & Yellow flags if beach open CLOSE BEACH IF REQUIRED & Carry out beach set up for No Swimming.
Contact Supervisor and follow instructions for duties required that day.
DAILY DUTIES
LIMSOC reports to be filled out as day progresses and incidents occur. Supporting statements must be filled out immediately after reports and attached to respective reports.
Gather rubbish from BEACH and surrounds – place in rubbish bins.
Maintain public relations and educate patrons of regulations, laws and rules. Maintain security of HUT and equipment.
Check all notice boards in HUT.
Maintain a clean working environment.
MOVE NET FREQUENTLY AS PER UNINET MANUAL. CHECK SIDES OF NET FOR BURIES BEFORE MOVING.
REMOVE DEBRIS, STICKS AND LOGS FROM NETS AND SURROUNDS.
Inspect nearby creeks and drains for possible debris and erosion problems.
REPORT ALL SITUATIONS THAT REQUIRE ASSISTANCE.
Carry out net inspection as close to low tide where possible.
First Aid box, communication equipment, rescue equipment, stretcher/ board and other rescue equipment.
Report any repairs required or equipment for re-stock to Lifeguard Supervisor and note in request book.
Routinely check and report on toilets/showers during opening hours.
Re-stock First Aid supplies as required.
Gather lost property, log and store.
Carry out other duties and complete within time given as instructed by Supervisor.
STINGER SEASON 16:00
Carry out net check and drag inside net.
Checking boom and netting first and anchoring points.
SET NET FOR TIDES (If wind strength is less than 15kts, end of net must be as close to waters edge as possible.) AND SET CHAINS FOR PREVAILING WEATHER CONDITIONS AS PER UNINET MANUAL & GREEN SHEET AS PER BEACH
Secondly check hoses, cap lines and pumps.
Report any faults to Uninet and supervisor immediately.
16:30 (5pm)
Check and test equipment.
First Aid box, communication equipment, rescue equipment –
Stretcher /board and other rescue equipment
Report any repairs required or equipment for re-stock to lifeguard supervisor and note in request book.
16:45 (5pm)
Gather First Aid box, communication equipment, rescue equipment – spine board, stiff neck and other rescue aids placing them in HUT as per Lifeguard Supervisor instructions.
Check and test equipment.
Re-stock First Aid supplies as required
Place communications equipment on chargers.
16:55 (5pm)
Sign off on LIMSOC
17:00 (5pm)
TURN OFF LIGHTS BEFORE LEAVING: LOCK HUT AND SECURE
Always lock hut when not inside.
Be aware of tides, make sure net is moved regularly & in accordance to Tide (make sure net is moved prior to or with tide, especially low tide).
Chains need to be set regularly and make sure net does not get buried. At Low tide, nets get buried easily overnight.
All gear and equipment used each day is to be cleaned/maintained thoroughly before packing away in a neat and tidy fashion in the hut.
Any gear & equipment that is damaged, missing or inoperable is to be reported to the Lifeguard Supervisor immediately.
At the end of each week, the Lifeguard is to send all relevant Lifeguard paperwork used during that week to the Lifeguard Supervisor – this includes, but is not limited to:
