Policy
Lifeguards beach observation duties must be in place from the allotted opening time to the allotted finishing time.
Procedures
- At 15 minutes prior to closing time the Senior Lifeguard/Shift Senior is to decide from a risk assessment whether Lifeguards are required to extend their time of completion due to the increased visitations.
- If so see LGS NSI 024 Extended Hours
- If no extension of hours is required the following is to occur
- Lifeguards are to advise all groups in and around the Bathing reserve that the Lifeguards will be going off duty in at designated closing time. (This can be done via the PA system.)
- Once this is complete the lifeguard is to begin packing up making sure to leave the rescue equipment in place on the beach until the designated closing time.
- Sign Off with LIMSOC. Notify Surfcom any relevant information in regards to Major Incidents/Rescues and Beach Conditions via LIMSOC.
- Lifeguards shall not leave their observation duties at the beach until the designated closing time.
- Clean and tidy all equipment. Ensure everything is ready for use next day. (inc restocking and refuelling)
- Ensure that the radios and phones have been put back on charge.
