Purpose
When a Lifeguard is handed or finds property that he/she believes to be lost, the following procedure is to take place.
Procedure
All lost property to be recorded in the Daily Diary and where applicable the lost property register at the Lifeguard Location. When this is done, follow the below procedure:
- Confirm that the owner of the item is not in the immediate vicinity.
- Check to see if the item has been reported lost. If the item has been previously reported lost, contact the owner if possible and advise them to come to retrieve their belongings.
- Record the details of the person reporting any lost/found item.
- Found items over the estimated value of AU$20.00 should be recorded in the Lost Property Register and handed to Administration at Police Beat. Field Property Receipt should be made out to Lifeguards, and stored in Lost Property policy forms folder.
- Found items under the estimated value of AU$20.00 should be stored in the lost property box for the duration of one week
- Wallets with any identification are to be taken to the police ASAP.
- Mobile phone owners can usually be contacted by numbers in the phone. This procedure is regularly used by Lifeguards.
- Hotels are to be called when keys turn up. It will then be decided by the hotel if they will pick it up
