Lifeguard Positioning
It is important Lifeguards position themselves so they can see most of the pool and patrons. This is often tricky due to the layout of the facility and obstructions that block Lifeguards line of sight, seeing all the pool and patrons is not always possible all the time. Lifeguards should move around the pool and position themselves at pre-determined central locations, closer to higher-risk areas or where the main concentration of swimmers are.
It is Riverway 1’s responsibility to ensure that the lifeguards are in the most efficient position, this may vary slightly depending on the points listed above and any incidents that may occur. The positioning of Lifeguards has been developed from analysing hazard zones and the areas that offer the most comprehensive supervision of both the upper and lower lagoons.
Upper Lagoon High Risk Areas
- Ledges surrounding the central raintree
- Wheelchair access ramp
- Shallow zone surrounding the stairs the at western end (Library entrance)
- The entrance to the lap section by the conference room
Lower Lagoon High Risk Areas
- Children’s pool separation wall
- Infinity wall
- Wheelchair access ramp
In addition to the high-risk areas Lifeguards should be aware of the variation in depth across both the upper and lower lagoons. As patrons move throughout the pool, they may lose their footing and require assistance.
