Introduction
The Riverway Lagoon Precinct is monitored by Security Officers and a large compliment of surveillance cameras 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is necessary that Lifeguards cooperate and communicate with Security Officers to ensure the safety to themselves and visitors to the precinct. Any issues between Lifeguards and Security contractors are to be reported to Lifeguard Supervisor NBB immediately in the first instance.
Lifeguards are to ensure they are following correct radio procedures as per LGS RWL 5.7 Radio Communications
Procedure
Each Lifeguard is required to have a handheld radio on their person at all times. Lifeguards to ensure radios are fully charged and turned on. Riverway 1 should keep the security (TCC) radio with them at all times. If they are on break/ have finished their shift for the day, the radio should be kept at Tower 1.

Start of shift
Lifeguards to perform morning radio check with security as per LGS RWL 5.3 Signing On and Off Procedure
During shift
Lifeguards to inform security of;
- Lagoon status changes i.e. lagoon closed due to lightning
- Missing persons
- Suspicious persons
- Major incidents
- Secondary warnings being issued
- Exclusions of patrons
End of shift
- Lifeguards to inform security of:
- The number of swimmers in the water
- Any unsupervised children/non-swimmers
- Confirm that both P.A announcements have been made
- Lifeguards are signing off as per LGS 5.03
