Policy

If the Lifeguard service needs to be increased within normal operating hours or outside normal operating hours due to increased visitations or adverse conditions the following procedure is to take place:

Procedures

  • The Senior Lifeguard is to make the decision based on his risk assessment whether or not an extension of a lifeguards shift is needed and or an extra lifeguard is needed.
    • The risk assessment should be made based on, the number of swimmers, profile matching, history and bathing reserve numbers.
    • If a majority of the swimmers are children then extended lifeguard hours are advisable.
  • If the Lifeguard service needs to be increased, the Senior Lifeguard shall contact the Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Lifeguard Supervisor will make a decision based on the lifeguards advice and information.
  • Any extension of operating hours is to be reviewed every half an hour to an hour at the latest at which time the shift senior should start again with step 1.
