MORNING
September – May

  • A Lifeguard starts at the Noosa Jet Shed and completes the below
  • Keys to the Noosa Jet shed are located in a lock box which is next to the door
  • Roller door is opened by pushing the button on the control panel inside the shed next to the entrance door
  • Enter storage shed and retrieve communications equipment (phone and radio) from dark grey storage box on the wall
  • Remove equipment from storage shed, close the roller door, lock the padlock and replace keys into lock box immediately
  • Proceed carefully to Noosa Lifeguard tower by going along the break wall towards the beach to beach access 9. If unable to get access along the beach go down Claude Batten Drive until you turn left into the first parking area then proceed through beach access 16
  • May need to proceed via Hastings St to Noosa SLSC. Road rules apply. Seat belt must be worn. Highly visible so best practice at all times to maintain image. Be aware of stopping distances when breaking as jet ski is “heavy” relative to SSV.
  • Drop Jet Ski at Noosa and complete pre-operation checks of the Jet Ski
  • Follow generic set up (refer to page 5) from this point
  • A Lifeguard starts at Noosa Lifeguard tower and completes the below
  • Keys to the Noosa Lifeguard tower and storage room are located in a lock box which is on the western side of the tower on the stairwell.
  • Unlock the tower and storage room and replace keys immediately
  • Enter storage room and retrieve communications equipment (phone and radio) from white cupboard
  • Log on with Surfcom through LIMSOC and do radio check with Surfcom
  • Follow generic set up from this point

MORNING
May – September

  • A Lifeguard starts at the Noosa Jet Shed and completes the below
  • Keys to the Noosa Jet shed are located in a lock box which is next to the door

  • Return to Noosa West, open the tower, erect signage at hazardous locations along the foreshore and deploy the rescue board in board stand operationally ready for rescues
  • Rove between Noosa West, Noosa River and Noosa
  • A Lifeguard starts at Noosa Lifeguard tower and completes the below
  • Keys to the Noosa Lifeguard tower and storage room are located in a lock box which is on the western side of the tower on the stairwell.
  • Unlock the tower and storage room and replace keys immediately
  • Enter storage room and retrieve communications equipment (phone and radio) from white cupboard
  • Log on with Surfcom through LIMSOC and do radio check with Surfcom
  • Follow generic set up from this point.

AFTERNOON

  • Follow generic close procedure
  • A Lifeguard returns Jet Ski and ATV to the Noosa Jet shed on Claude Batten Drive Beach Access 9

DAILY DUTIES

  • LIMSOC Stats to be filled out as day progresses and incidents occur.
  • Supporting statements must be filled out immediately after reports and attached to respective reports.
  • Gather rubbish from BEACH and surrounds – place in rubbish bins.
  • Maintain public relations and educate patrons of regulations, laws and rules Maintain security of Tower and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Check First Aid, communication equipment, rescue equipment, stretcher/ board and other rescue equipment report any repairs required or equipment for re-stock to lifeguard supervisor and note in request book .
  • Re-stock First Aid supplies as required.
  • Gather lost property, log and store.
  • Carry out other duties and complete within time given as instructed by Supervisor

Mobi Mat

Beach Access Path

Mobi Mat Beach Access Path is required to be inspect daily by Lifeguards to:

  1. Ensure no trip hazards are present
  2. The mat is taunt
  3. There are no lumps and bumps, no drop-offs at the edges
  4. Check if the long-pronged pegs require refitting/hammering in
  5. Review sand build up/safety after overnight high tides

In the event of a forecasted large swell, king tide or extreme weather event the beach mat is to be rolled up fully or partially prior to the event and stored by Lifeguards noting:

  1. Supplied gloves are utilised when handling the mat
  2. The sections of the mat can be removed prior to erecting the flags, at a time when effective surveillance can be achieved or by calling the Lifeguard Supervisor to arrange assistance
  3. Each section can be removed by extracting the long-pronged pegs, the slide inserts and rolling up the sections individually
  4. The sections of the mat, long pronged pegs & slide inserts are to be stored in the Jet Ski Shed when not in use
  5. The 1 metre advertising panel must also be removed and stored at the Jet Ski Shed when not in use
  6. Council will need to remove the top section when required as it is screwed down. Lifeguards are to notify Council immediately by contacting 5329 6500 if this is to occur. (B&F)
  • After the event has past, and the beach is stable, Lifeguards are to reinstall the lengths where appropriate (i.e. beach length, and high tide mark). All sections other than the top section can be replaced by Lifeguards. The sections can be replaced prior to erecting the flags, at a time when effective surveillance can be achieved or by calling the Lifeguard Supervisor to arrange assistance. Ensure that gloves that have been supplied are utilised when handling the mat.
