Introduction

The lifeguard vehicles are used by many different lifeguards and sometimes members are transported in lifeguard vehicles. A high level of cleanliness is required.

Policy

Lifeguard vehicles are exposed to sand and salt water/air every day. Due to this lifeguard vehicles are required to be washed every day. This is the minimum requirement.

Procedure – Inside Vehicle

  • Use the brush to sweep entire inside of vehicle
  • Remove foot mats from vehicle and brush them down
  • Brush where the foot mats have been removed to get rid of any leftover sand
  • Replace foot mats
  • Remove any rubbish from the day’s work
  • Ensure everything in the back seat is neat and in working order

Procedure – Outside Vehicle

  • Get hose
  • Start from the top of the vehicle and work your way around and down
  • Wash tyres and mudguards ensure behind tyres are washed
  • Underneath the vehicle should be washed ensuring axles are clean

Added Extra jobs required every fortnight or month

  • Armoral Interior and wipe down interior
  • Clean Windows
  • Suds Wash car
  • Report in diary

Vehicle procedure for Friday afternoon
The North Stradbroke Island Lifeguard Service has three work vehicles.
They are used for

  1. Cylinder Beach
  2. Main Beach
  3. Roving, PLSLSC Shared

Cylinder Beach Vehicle
On a Friday afternoon all external equipment on vehicle is to be unpacked. Shared equipment with PLSLSC is to be kept in its allocated area in the gear shed. Lifeguard equipment is to be stored at
Adder Rock shed. The vehicle will then be parked at the Stradbroke Ferries car park with the key hidden in the allocated area. This vehicle is only to be used by the Lifeguards who are rostered to work on the half day swap over with the PLSLSC.

Main Beach Vehicle
On a Friday afternoon all shared equipment must be unpacked. Shared equipment with PLSLSC is to be kept in its allocated area in the gear shed. The vehicle is to be kept at the Full Time/ Acting Full Time Lifeguards place of residence.

Roving, PLSLSC Shared
On a Friday afternoon Lifeguard equipment is to be fully unpacked and stored at Adder Rock Shed. The vehicle will then be parked at the PLSLSC with the key to be kept in the First Aid room. This vehicle is only to be used by approved PLSLSC members.

At no stage should unauthorised persons be driving the vehicles or having unauthorised passengers in the vehicle. If a Lifeguard has a reasonable request to use a vehicle, they must contact their supervisor/ full time lifeguard and ask for permission. This includes winter time when the rove car is situated in Dunwich or at the surf club, and is not being utilised by the on-duty lifeguards.
