Introduction

SLSQ provides a Lifeguard utility vehicle to support the operations of the Horseshoe Bay Lifeguard and the Magnetic Island Rove Lifeguard (when rostered). The vehicle supports beach and rove Lifeguard activities and facilitates safe transport during high-risk stinger season duties. Recognize that both you and the vehicle are high profile, and maintain the professional image of the Australian Lifeguard Service.

Policy
Lifeguard vehicles are exposed to sand and salt water/air every day. Due to this lifeguard vehicles are required to be washed every day. In addition to this the Lifeguard vehicle and it’s keys must be stored in a standard location. This is the minimum requirement.

Vehicle Operations Procedure

  • Lifeguard vehicles must be operated in accordance with LGOM 011 – Vehicle Operations
  • Keys can be located in the IGA staff room.
  • Lifeguards may wish to “car pool” at the commencement and completion of their shifts when transiting to and from their start and finish locations.
  • The Lifeguard utility vehicle is to be parked in the IGA carpark outside of hours of operation.
  • This vehicle is to be locked (including the canopy) at the completion of use.
  • This vehicle is only to be used by the Lifeguards who are rostered to work.
  • When the fuel level falls below half, Lifeguards are to refuel using diesel at the Arcadia Store.
  • At no stage should unauthorised persons be driving the vehicle or having unauthorised passengers in the vehicle. If a Lifeguard has a reasonable request to use a vehicle, they must contact their supervisor/ full time lifeguard and ask for permission.

Wash Down Procedure – Inside Vehicle

  • Use the brush to sweep entire inside of vehicle
  • Remove foot mats from vehicle and brush them down
  • Brush where the foot mats have been removed to get rid of any leftover sand
  • Replace foot mats
  • Remove any rubbish from the day’s work
  • Ensure everything in the back seat is neat and in working order

Wash Down Procedure – Outside Vehicle

  • Connect hose to nearest tab at the Horseshoe Bay boat ramp
  • Start from the top of the vehicle and work your way around and down
  • Wash tyres and mudguards ensure behind tyres are washed
  • Underneath the vehicle should be washed ensuring axles are clean
