Purpose
Stinger drags can be dangerous if Lifeguards don’t have the correct PPE. The following procedure must be followed.
Procedure
Suiting up
- Put on a wet suit that fits you best.
- Put on booties that fit you best and tape around top of boot (so no water can get in at that point.)
- Put lifeguard rash vest over top of wetsuit. (This is to identify yourself to the public when in water as it easier to see then just the black wet suit.)
- Put on latex gloves, then grey gloves over the top and tape around end of glove on wrist.
- Lastly ensure you are wearing your hat, it not only protects you from the sun, but it also identifies you as the Lifeguard.
Suiting down
- Douse your wrists, ankles and anything else you think needs it, with vinegar.
- Have a freshwater shower before taking anything off, this will disintegrate and destroy any jellyfish/tentacles that could be still on your body.
- Wash all gear (drag net, bowls etc) under shower (this will make them sand free and clean).
- Hang the gear up to dry.
