Purpose

Stinger drags can be dangerous if Lifeguards don’t have the correct PPE. The following procedure must be followed.

Procedure

Suiting up

  1. Put on a wet suit that fits you best.
  2. Put on booties that fit you best and tape around top of boot (so no water can get in at that point.)
  3. Put lifeguard rash vest over top of wetsuit. (This is to identify yourself to the public when in water as it easier to see then just the black wet suit.)
  4. Put on latex gloves, then grey gloves over the top and tape around end of glove on wrist.
  5. Lastly ensure you are wearing your hat, it not only protects you from the sun, but it also identifies you as the Lifeguard.

Suiting down

  1. Douse your wrists, ankles and anything else you think needs it, with vinegar.
  2. Have a freshwater shower before taking anything off, this will disintegrate and destroy any jellyfish/tentacles that could be still on your body.
  3. Wash all gear (drag net, bowls etc) under shower (this will make them sand free and clean).
  4. Hang the gear up to dry.
