Purpose
Within the guidelines of the Council Contract for Lifeguard Services’ the Lifeguard Contractor is responsible for upholding the rules and regulations as an ‘authorised person’. As an authorised person all Lifeguards are to follow the ‘Verbal Warning Policy’ as set below.
Procedure
When and if a breach of the rules and regulations occurs within the Lifeguards area of responsibility there are three steps which are to be followed.
1. Primary Warning
In an appropriate manner a verbal warning is to be given to the notifying them of the rules and regulations.
2. Secondary Warning
In an appropriate manner a verbal warning is to be given to the notifying them of the rules and regulations and that this is their second and final warning and if he/she continues that they will receive an exclusion from the bathing reserve. (The Lifeguard is to ascertain whether this is to be for the duration of the day or a certain time period).
3. Inform QPS
Inform QPS directly or via Surfcom -
- ‘What offender has done’ – “Gentlemen has been throwing sand”
- ‘What you have done’ – “I have informed him of the rules and given him his final warning”
