  • WHEN MAGNETIC ISLAND ROVE ON DUTY REFER TO “OPENING”
  • Arrive at Picnic Bay and rendezvous with the Horseshoe Bay Lifeguard and sign on Deputy.
  • ABSENT STAFF TO BE REPORTED TO NBB LIFEGUARD SUPERVISOR IMMEDIATELY.
  • Perform stinger enclosure checks (In water net and boom inspection is not required) any faults that cannot be rectified within 15 minutes to be reported to NBB Lifeguard Supervisor immediately for resolution. HS & AB lifeguards to leave for respective beaches no later than 9.00am
  • Proceed to Horseshoe Bay as per LGS 029 location description Horseshoe Bay
OPENING Stinger season only
  • Arrive at Alma Bay
  • Sign on LIMSOC .
  • Perform radio check with SURFCOM.
  • Place Rescue Board and Tube on beach.
  • Perform preoperational checks on First Aid Kit, Oxygen, De-fib and rescue equipment
  • Perform stinger drags as per Marine Stinger Guidelines
  • Perform stinger enclosure checks as per Marine Stinger Guidelines, any faults must immediately be reported to the NBB Supervisor
  • Complete Marine Stinger Risk Assessment (MSRA)
  • Implement control Measures as per (MSRA)
  • Ensure the beach area is presentable and if all is in order change beach status to OPEN and place patrol equipment as per Lifeguard Operations Manual.
START 08:30am
  • Arrive at Alma Bay
  • Sign-on LIMSOC
  • Perform radio check with Surfcom
  • Place Rescue Board and Tube on beach.
  • Perform preoperational checks on First Aid Kit, Oxygen, De-fib and rescue equipment
  • Ensure the beach area is presentable and if all is in order OPEN and place patrol equipment as per Patrol Operations Manual.
  • CLOSE BEACH IF REQUIRED & Carry out beach set up for No Swimming.

  • Enter LIMSOC stats

  • Make announcement via Pa/loud hailer to all beachgoers that the lifeguard will be going off duty in 15 minutes and after that time swimmers will be swimming at an unpatrolled beach.
  • Gather all gear and equipment for washing/cleaning and store neatly within Lifeguard hut.
FINISH 16:30
  • Sign-off LIMSOC
  • TURN OFF LIGHTS BEFORE LEAVING: SECURE AND LOCK LIFEGUARD TOWER
  • Sign-off Deputy
DAILY DUTIES
  • Lifeguard daily diary to be filled out as day progresses and incidents occur. Supporting statements must be filled out immediately after reports and attached to respective reports.
  • Gather rubbish from beach and surrounds – place in rubbish bins.
  • Maintain public relations and educate patrons of regulations, laws and rules
  • Maintain security of Lifeguard hut
  • Maintain a clean working environment
  • Inspect nearby creeks and drains for possible debris and erosion problems
  • Report all situations that require assistance
  • Check First Aid kit, communication equipment, rescue equipment, stretcher/ board and other rescue equipment report any repairs required or equipment for re-stock to NBB Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • Re-stock First Aid supplies as required.
  • Gather lost property, log and store
  • Carry out other duties and complete within time given as instructed by NBB Lifeguard Supervisor.
  • All gear and equipment used each day is to be cleaned/maintained thoroughly before packing away in a neat and tidy fashion in the hut.
  • Any gear & equipment that is damaged, missing or inoperable is to be reported to the NBB Lifeguard Supervisor immediately.
