Introduction
From time to time Lifeguards may need to extend their shifts due to increased visitations or have the lifeguard man-power increased. It is the responsibility of the Senior Lifeguard/Lifeguard Nine to make the decision and then the following procedures are to take place.
Procedure
- 40 minutes prior to the end of the shift the Lifeguard in charge (Lifeguard 9) and if possible, Lifeguard Supervisor is to make the decision whether or not they need Lifeguards to extend their completion time (Shift Hours).
- The Lifeguard in charge (Lifeguard 9) is to decide what Lifeguards are to extend their hours ensuring that there is a minimum of two (2) Lifeguards.
- Shifts are extended and are to be monitored every half hour.
- Notification is to be given to Lifeguard Supervisor (via Daily Report Log and SMS).
- The Lifeguard 9 is to decide if manpower levels need to be increased, due to unforeseen high visitations or greater numbers for events than predicted.
- Manpower levels are to be monitored every half hour.
- Notification is to be given to Lifeguard Supervisor via phone to advise them of situation (as well as a record in Daily Report Log). Lifeguard Supervisor will make the final call whether to call in another lifeguard.
