Introduction

In the event that a staff member fails to arrive at work with no prior notification or contact (replacement), the following is to take place regardless of the number of attending Lifeguard to ensure the service is not compromised at any time throughout the day.

Procedure

  • The Lifeguard in charge (LG9) of the day is to immediately contact the South Bank Lifeguard Supervisor and inform them of the situation.
  • The Lifeguard Supervisor is to try and contact the ‘non-arrival’ staff member and then find a replacement if needed
    .
  • If the Lifeguard Supervisor cannot be contacted then the Lifeguard Supervisor SEQ is to be contacted and informed of the situation.
  • If neither the Supervisor nor Lifeguard Supervisor SEQ is able to be contacted, a message is to be left on their phones and the Senior Lifeguard/Lifeguard Nine is to try and contact the ‘non arrival’ staff member and then find a replacement if needed.
  • ‘Control’ is to be contacted and advised in regards to the situation and the current progress and the expected time the situation will be rectified.
  • If the non-arrival will affect manpower-levels around the lagoon area, then strategies should be put in place to maintain safe levels of pool supervision. These can include:
    • The removal of a Lifeguard at Aquativity or Boat pool and placing them around main pool and subsequently placing those locations into low-patronage mode.
    • Bringing any Lifeguards on break back onto deck.
    • Pausing rotations.
  • If safe pool supervision cannot be achieved with the number of staff on duty due to a non-arrival of a staff member, then the Lifeguard in-charge should, though consultation with the Lifeguard Supervisor, close the pool areas until staffing levels can be rectified.
