Purpose
Lifeguards are to follow the following procedures to ensure timely and accurate reporting of water rescues is completed.
A water rescue is defined as a Lifeguard/s has had to act to save somebody from a dangerous or harmful situation.
Why complete a ‘Rescue Report Form’?
In case of any later dispute, Lifeguards should make a record of all incidents. This record should describe what was known about the incident and what treatment was performed. A record of each incident must be kept. When completing all forms and reporting be aware that these are classed as legal documents and can be called upon if needed for court. Records should be accurate, clear, concise, and factual reflecting observations only, not opinions or attempts at medical conclusions. If recording information of patient from bystanders regarding the situation leading up to the incident, ensure the person’s name is recorded as the informant.
Data obtained from these reports are an integral part of our quality improvement and risk management and are reviewed, analysed, and trended. All data is stored safely within LIMSOC’s databases.
Procedure
All water rescues must be reported. The following procedure will cover all reporting requirements
- Gather patient (Name, DOB, Address) and rescue (Location, method of rescue) details. Also take note of all lifeguard positions and the number of staff on duty.
- Contact Security control and advise them of the location and age of the rescue. Make clear whether any further assistance is required. | Note: If the patient required medical care, then it is considered a major first aid. Continue as per incident reporting procedure as per LGS SB 2.5. If a major first aid, you must still complete the following steps. |
- Complete a LIMSOC rescue report.
- Complete a JotForm rescue report.
- JotForm includes a map to locate the rescue and draw the positions of other lifeguards on duty.
Examples of the above reports are found below. All links for reporting are on the Lifeguard iPad, located in the Allgas Lifeguard breakroom.
