Introduction
The Lifeguard 9 is to check the water clarity, with the Water Clarity disc between 3pm – 4pm or when required, between September – April and during major events.
Procedure
- The water clarity disc is to be taken to the back wall from north tower between by Lifeguard 9. (Preferably first job of the Lifeguard 9 afternoon/night shift e.g. LG9 3-9). Lifeguards will meet Water Services at Back Wall if required.
- At this time Lifeguard 9 is to check the water clarity by placing the pool scoop pole with the meter on it to the bottom of the pool.
- If the reading of the pool is clear, similar checks should be carried out at 2-hour intervals. Lifeguard discretion can be used if the pools are busy and the water is starting to turn earlier than the scheduled checks.
- If the Lifeguard cannot clearly see the black and white segments of the water clarity disc, Water Services and Lifeguards are to confirm with Security that they are closing the Main Pool due to water clarity issues. Lifeguards in collaboration with Water Services are then to rope off the Main Pool.
- If Water Services are not on site then Lifeguard 9 should notify security that pool should be closed. Security should then contact on-call personnel from Water Services to let them know.
- If Main Pool is closed, City Parklands Pool Closure Procedure then takes effect. Once the closure takes effect, Lifeguards are to also monitor the Boat Pool and Aquativity for any water clarity issues. Lifeguards will follow the same procedure for Main Pool water clarity testing (as stated above) for the Boat Pool and Aquativity.
- The Lifeguard 9 is to inform all Lifeguards with the same consistent message, which is to assist with public relations with the pool closure. The message is to be as follows – ‘there has been unforeseen maintenance issues’.
