Introduction
When closing the ‘Water Area’ lifeguards are to ensure that there are at least two lifeguards on duty. One lifeguard needs to remain at the Main Tower and at least one lifeguard should be rotating or stationed at an appropriate location within the pool area until the designated time at which lifeguard services conclude for the day.
Closing Procedures
When ending shift, the lifeguards are to ensure the following tasks are completed while at least one lifeguard stays at the Main Tower and maintains observation of the water area.
- Lifeguards are to start informing patrons that lifeguards will be finishing shift in 25-30mins prior. To let patrons, know that once their shift is finished, they will be swimming unsupervised and at their own risk. They are also to identify non-swimmers and encourage them to leave the water or to stay in the shallow ends.
- 10 minutes prior to finishing time, lifeguards are to place Boat Pool, Back Wall and Aquativity pool scoops and spinal boards in their appropriate storage locations (as per LGS SB 3.3).
- Once their shift finishing time arrives, lifeguards are to place “Pool Unattended” signs out. These are to be positioned at Aquativity, Boat Pool in front of Boat Pool Lifeguard Tower and on Streets Beach, opposite the Northern and Southern Lifeguard Towers.
- The two (2) ‘Pool Unattended’ signs from Boat Pool (one at the pontoon on the Main Pool Side and at the beginning of the ramp) are to be changed from the ‘Pool Operating Low Patronage Mode’ side to the ‘Pool Unattended’ side.
- The Two (2) ‘Pool Unattended’ signs from Aquativity (one on the Brisbane River side and one on the cement near the big fig tree) are to be changed from the ‘Pool Operating Low Patronage Mode’ side to the ‘Pool Unattended side’.
- The senior lifeguard is to inform control that they will be finishing observational duties for the day and that they will be on communications for the next 20 minutes as they pack up (as per LGS SB 5.3).
- One lifeguard is to change all signs to “Lifeguard Off Duty” and lock/secure all Lifeguard Towers, ensuring that rescue tubes are left within secured Back Wall Lifeguard Towers.
- At this time another lifeguard is to take the buggy back to the buggy storage room in carpark, ensuring that it has been cleaned and is ready for operation the next day (as per LGS SB 3.5).
- If there is a third lifeguard on duty, they may at this time, take all remaining equipment into the First Aid Room, with the exception of the Pelican Case, which is to remain at Main Tower until the Lifeguard responsible for changing signs is finished and can collect it.
- Once the above procedures have been completed, the Lifeguard 9 is to radio Control and advise them that lifeguards are “Off Comms” for the day.
