Policy
When a Lifeguard is handed or finds property that he/she believes to be lost, the following procedure is to take place:
Lost Property Procedure
If a patron approaches Lifeguards to hand in lost property:
- Inform ‘Control’ of the item that is lost.
- Inform ‘Control’ of the location of the item.
- Upon rotation hand in lost item into the Visitor Information Center. If unable to do so due to operational requirements, ask ‘Control’ if a Security Officer is able to take the item to the Visitor Information Centre.
- If a Security Officer is unable to attend, leave the item at the reported location until a Lifeguard or Security Officer is available to take the item to the Visitor Information Centre.
If a bag, purse or wallet etc. is found at a location, Lifeguards are to inform ‘Control’ of its location and remain in the area until a Security Officer is available to attend. This is subject to Lifeguard’s judgement if swimmers are placed at risk by doing so.
Stolen Property Procedure
If a patron approaches Lifeguards with a report of stolen belongings:
- Inform ‘Control’ of the item/s that were stolen.
- Inform ‘Control’ of the location of the stolen item if known and/or the location the item was stolen from.
- Request that a Security Officer arrive at scene to help patron with reporting of stolen item/s.
- If a Security Officer is unable to attend, inform patron to wait for the Security Officer or to report the stolen item/s to South Bank Police or via Police Link.
