Introduction

Lifeguards are positioned around the pool areas (Main Lagoon, Boat Pool, Aquativity) and are to administer first aid at South Bank Parklands to patrons and staff when required.

Procedure

When receiving a call over the radio from security staff about a possible self-harming incident, lifeguards are to obtain details over the radio before delegating responsibility in order to determine the current situation and whether the incident is life threatening.

  • Incident place and problem
  • Conscious/Unconscious (Responsive/Non-Responsive)
  • Bleeding Badly – Yes/No
  • Does the patient have any weapons on them?

When attending the incident lifeguards are to stand back until security has assessed the danger of the situation before lifeguards are to render first aid assistance. If security has deemed the situation too dangerous lifeguards are to hang back until QPS arrives and takes control of the situation before any first aid assistance has been rendered.

If while lifeguards and security are waiting for QPS to attend the patient has a major bleed or loses consciousness, first aid assistance is to be immediate.

Once the first aid has been dealt with and all assets have been stood down, lifeguards are to return back to their on-deck duties and are to fill out the incident reporting forms at the earliest convenience following procedure LGS SB 2.5.

If it is a major incident and the lifeguard supervisor isn’t on deck, they are to be notified at the earliest convenience.
