Purpose

Lifeguards are required to wear SLSQ uniforms at all times while on duty to ensure they are easily identifiable to the public, reinforcing the presence of lifeguards in the area. Uniforms also serve as personal protective equipment (PPE), providing safety and complying with occupational health and safety (OH&S) regulations.

During shifts, lifeguards must wear the designated red and yellow uniform. When traveling to and from their shifts, lifeguards are not permitted to wear their red and yellow uniform, including jumpers. Instead, they must change or wear the Grey Lifeguard Training shirt to maintain professionalism and uniform standards.

Procedure

SLSQ supplies their Lifeguards with the following:

  • Shirt (long sleeve, sleeves unrolled)
  • Shorts
  • Hat
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Bum bag
  • Radio (in radio bag)
  • Wet weather gear
  • Cold weather gear

Lifeguard uniform is to be worn at all times whilst on duty and remains the property of SLSQ. The uniform is not to be worn while off duty, as there is a possibility of poor publicity for SLSQ.

While on duty, Lifeguards are required to wear the minimum of a hat, shirt, shorts and bum bag. The standards are as follows:

  • Hat – Always clean and to be worn in frontal position
  • Shirt – Always clean, not crinkled and is to be worn with sleeves unrolled
  • Shorts – Always clean and tidy
  • Bum bag – clean and tidy and fully stocked
