It is the responsibility of all lifeguards and users to report all hazards which includes defects, safety issues and maintenance requirements as soon as they are identified. This should be done by reporting all hazards to security for maintenance action. The lifeguard is to then isolate the area, place signage and record resolution on the Daily Diary informing the supervisor.
Aquatic Hazards
Type and frequency of activities
The South Bank Parklands precinct plays hosts to many different people, groups, and events across the year. Each aquatic activity has a different degree of risks of injury and illness and may require additional supervision to effectively supervise.
Some of the activates that take place includes but is not limited to:
- School excursions and activity days
- Birthday parties and celebrations
- Ball games
- Floating/inflatable play equipment
- Lap swimming
- Large scale events
On average there is one school excursion at the end of each term. The number of students attending these excursions range from 20 – 200 students.
SLSQ works to identify any activities that pose a higher-than-average risk to allow for either additional staff to be rostered on or work to develop a plan to limit the amount of patrons in the water at any one time.
