The HR Partner responsible for the onboarding will support the candidate in acquiring all required transit and destination visas prior to commencement of the travel. The candidate will be notified by the relevant office regarding visa requirements and procedures. The HR Partner or relevant office in the duty station will co-ordinate with the relevant Travel Unit, Protocol Unit or government authorities as applicable. Visa processing can be started as early as the confirmation of interest, in order not to delay arrival at the duty station.

Prior to the submission of visa requests, the candidate should ensure that all travel documentation is in order such as:

  • Valid national passport
  • UNLP, for serving staff members or in exceptional cases detailed in the United Nations Laissez-Passer (UNLP) section
  • Vaccination documentation
  • Hotel accommodations, if applicable

Some duty stations also require post-arrival follow-up actions. These follow up activities will be communicated to the staff member as part of their induction and check-in at the duty station.
