The appointment of a staff member shall take effect from the date on which he or she enters into official travel status to assume his or her duties or, if no official travel is involved, from the date on which the staff member reports for duty. This is the effective date of appointment (ST/SGB/2018/1, Staff Rule 4.2).

Reporting dates for external candidates may vary and depend on the notice period of the candidate and other considerations.

For peacekeeping operations, the effective date of appointment will be the date of travel to attend the CPT1 if applicable, or the travel to the duty station, whichever occurs earlier.

Following offer management, EOD Dates are set when appointment personnel actions are processed in Umoja. EOD dates will be established by the HR Partner processing the relevant personnel action in Umoja, for more detail see the Umoja Onboarding Job Aid.

For movements between duty stations the effective date of reassignment, transfer or temporary assignment is normally the date the staff member travels.

1 CPT is discontinued for special political missions
