- Appointments are for 30 days or less in a fixed period of time.
- The staff member is paid a daily rate.
- Letters of appointment shall indicate: (a) the place of work; (b) the dates of appointment and, when appropriate, the number of days to be paid, and travel days to be paid ; (c) the applicable remuneration rate, whether daily or monthly; (d) a reference, where applicable, to a Caisse and/or accident and sickness insurance when the regulatory framework of the hiring Organization provides for this option, and the corresponding percentage to be deducted; and (e) whether the interpreter’s appointment involves travel and whether a DSA and other travel-related expenses are payable.
- When a period of employment at the daily rates is extended in such a way that the extension, together with the original duration of the contract, exceeds 30 days, the provisions of ST/AI/2010/4/rev.1 on temporary appointments shall apply from the 31st day.

- The earnings threshold for retired language service staff cannot be more than the equivalent of 125 ‘worked’ days of monetary compensation, per calendar year. Additionally, they may not be re-employed for more than 125 days per calendar year.
