The Capability module allows companies to represent a high-level view of their organization from the perspective of business capabilities which, in essence, briefly describe everything their organization can do.
While the core module of EPC, the Process module, defines “how” things are done, the Capability module is used to define “what” the business does at its core.
Business capability is the expression or articulation of the capability, materials, and expertise that an organization needs to perform essential functions. Enterprise architects use business capabilities to illustrate overall business needs to better strategize IT solutions that meet those business needs. The Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is a process and behavior model that helps organizations streamline process improvement and encourage productive and efficient behaviors that reduce risk in software development, products and services.
In this module, users can:
- Create their capability chart presented in EPC as a color-coded capability hierarchy chart
- Assign maturity levels to capabilities
- Analyze capabilities using a SWOT matrix (strength, weakness, opportunities and threats)
