The sharpen effect helps bring out fine detail in the image by increasing local contrast in areas of contrast.

  • Preset: Choose from a variety of built-in presets, each of which gives you a predefined set of values for the effect controls. Presets can be used as-is, or as a starting point for further adjustments.
  • Strength: The amount of the sharpened result which is applied to the image. Oversharpening can negatively impact image quality, so it is important to adjust the amount based on the resolution of the image and the amount of sharpening required.
  • Feature Size: Defines the size of features within the image which will be factored into the sharpening.
  • Dimension: Select the dimension(s) in which the sharpening is applied.
    • Horizontal & Vertical: Sharpening is calculated both horizontally and vertically. This is the most common option.
    • Horizontal: Sharpening is only calculated horizontally.
    • Vertical: Sharpening is only calculated vertically.
