Adds a glowing aura to bright areas of the layer, by defining the bright areas, creating a blurred version of those areas, then blending that version back onto the footage.

  • Intensity: Adjusts the brightness of the glow.
  • Threshold: Sets how bright a pixel has to be for the glow to be applied. At high thresholds, the glow will only appear on the brightest parts of the layer. Lowering the threshold will include progressively darker areas in the glow.
  • Radius: Alters the size of the glow, and thereby the softness of the glow’s edge.
  • Blend: Select the blend mode used to apply the glow to the underlying layer.

Per Channel Intensity

These controls allow you to control how each color channel of the image is affected by the glow effect, and thus alter the color of the glow.

  • Red: Positive values increase the red in the glow. Negative values decrease the red, adding cyan.
  • Green: Positive values increase the green in the glow. Negative values decrease the green, adding magenta.
  • Blue: Positive values increase the blue in the glow. Negative values decrease the blue, adding yellow.

Advanced

  • Direction: Provides a finer level of control over the blur on which the glow is based.
    • Horizontal & Vertical: Blurs the bright areas both horizontally and vertically, so the glow spreads in all directions.
    • Horizontal: Blurs the bright areas to the left and right, creating horizontal streaks.
    • Vertical: Blurs the bright areas upward and downward, creating vertical streaks.
  • Use A and B Colors: Enable this option to define specific glow colors, rather than using the colors found in the image.
  • Color Looping: Select the sequence in which the A and B colors will be mapped into the glow.
    • A > B: The inner half of each color loop uses color A, and the outer half uses color B.
    • B > A: The inner half of each color loop uses color B, and the outer half uses color A.
    • A > B > A: Each color loop is split into thirds, with a band of color B separating two bands of color A.
    • B > A > B: Each color loop is split into thirds, with a band of color A separating two bands of color B.
  • Color Loops: Specify the number of color loops appearing in the glow.
  • Color A: Choose a color to be used as color A. You can use the eyedropper to choose a color from the layer, or click the swatch to open a color picker and choose any color you prefer. You can also manually enter the color values for the red, green, and blue channels.
  • Color B: Choose a color to be used as color B. You can use the eyedropper to choose a color from the layer, or click the swatch to open a color picker and choose any color you prefer. You can also manually enter the color values for the red, green, and blue channels.
  • A & B Midpoint: Adjusts the position of the midpoint between color A and color B within each color loop.
  • Color Phase: Shifts the position of the gradient within the color loop. Keyframing this property creates movement within the glow.
