Light Leak is available in the Pro tier.

Generates an evolving pattern of color gradients, simulating unwanted light leaking into the camera during shooting.

  • Preset: Choose from a variety of built-in presets, each of which gives you a predefined set of values for the effect controls. These can be used as-is, or as a starting point for further adjustments.

Light Leak Generation

The generation of the light leak pattern is based on an internal fractal noise generation. The fractal noise itself is not actually seen, but is the basis upon which adjustments are made to modify the appearance of the light leak.

  • Threshold: The minimum luminance value at which fractal noise will be included in the light leak. Lowering the threshold gives softer edges to the light leak, while raising the threshold imparts harder edges to the light leak..
  • Scale: Alters the size of details within the fractal noise pattern on which the light leak is based.
  • Stretch: Changes the aspect ratio of the fractal noise on which the light leak is based. Negative values stretch the noise vertically, while positive values stretch the noise horizontally.
  • Rotation: Rotates the fractal noise pattern. Rotation is most noticeable when the Stretch value above has been edited.
  • Frequency: Modifies the frequency of the light leak pattern.
  • Seed: Randomizes the pattern within the style created by the other settings. Each value creates a unique noise pattern.

Motion

The motion controls adjust how the light leak moves over time.

  • Speed: The distance, in pixels, which the noise pattern will move in your chosen direction.
  • Direction: Use the angle wheel to define the direction in which the noise pattern will move.
  • Shake: The shake controls determine how much the movement of the noise can vary from the path defined by the primary directional movement.
    • Amount: Higher values create more erratic movement. Lower values give smoother, more consistent results.
    • Translation: Determines how far, in pixels, the layer can diverge from the main directional movement.
    • Rotation: Determines how much variety is present in the rotation of the noise.
    • Frequency: Controls how often the shake settings allow the noise to move erratically.

Appearance

These controls modify the overall look of the light leak.

  • Color: Assign a color for the light leak. You can use the eyedropper to select a color from the viewer, or click the swatch to open a color picker and choose any color you prefer. You can also manually enter the color values for the red, green, and blue channels.
  • Chroma Range: Adjusts the extent to which the colors in the original layer are factored in to the light leak color. Higher values create more variation in color within the light leak.
  • Brightness: Controls the brightness of the light leak, by altering the brightness of the underlying fractal noise pattern. Increasing the brightness therefore adds more light leak into the frame.
