Chimneys or vents are not permitted on the front of a dwelling unit.
For direct vent gas fireplaces, only the vent may extend beyond the main exterior wall with the firebox located within the dwelling unit (no dog houses).
Chimneys shall be integrated with the dwelling units and have a material and color compatible with the dwelling unit architecture.
Exterior chimneys on the ground level (including vented flueless fireplaces) must be constructed to grade and not appear to be suspended in the air, while those on upper levels must have a substantial base returning to the dwelling unit facade.
Exterior chimneys also should maintain the same material to grade.
Spark arrestors must be unadorned and non-ornamental.
They should be painted flat black or a color matching the chimney enclosure or the roof.
Metal rooftop flues should extend no higher than the minimum height required by the building code.
Flues should be of such construction that external support braces are not required.
Flues should be painted flat black or to match the dwelling unit’s roof color.
A new chimney constructed on an existing dwelling unit should match the material and design of the existing chimney(s) if any.
If constructed of masonry and mortar, the chimney should match those used on the dwelling unit, if any.
Simulated wood/cementitious siding enclosures of flues should match the dwelling unit siding or other simulated wood/cementitious siding elements.
