The output format is used to specify the layout of the final output file. This is very similar to creating an Input Format. You are stating which columns you need in your output file and in which order.
To define an output format, click the Output Format button. This will display the Format Selection dialog box.
The Format Selection dialog lists input formats and output formats together and if you want all the same columns in the same order, it could be that an input format you have already defined is suitable as an output format too.
However, it is often the case that the number of columns being output and/or the order of the columns differs. In which case a good starting point is to make a copy of an input format and to then change that as necessary.
Click the Copy button – this will make a copy of the currently selected format and open it for editing. You can then make the changes necessary for the output and save the format with a new meaningful name.
