A quick way to get started with a new report is to convert a browser.
A browser can be created and sliced and diced until it roughly resembles the layout and data wanted for your report.
Then click on Convert To Report in the ribbon and each cell in the browser will be changed into an Excel function to retrieve the appropriate data. Once your spreadsheet is populated with formulas, you can start to re-arrange it and add formatting etc. to get to your final output.
A few things to consider when converting browsers.
- The fixed dimension members at the top of the browser are given range names which are referred to in the cell formulas
- The name and description contents are all converted to use a combination of MemberName and MemberDescription functions. You may decide to overwrite these with fixed values later if appropriate.
- Because each cell has to be processed individually, large browsers can take some time to convert. It is advisable to create and convert a smaller browser first and then use copy and paste to extend the formulas as needed for the final report.
