Entities are the first important dimension in any Cubix model. These are the discreet units that make up your business structure and could be companies, business units, physical locations, departments or any other such organisational unit.

There are 3 types of entity, Input, Elimination and Consolidated.

Input Entities

All models will have at least one and usually many input entities. These represent the units for which data are entered or loaded into the Cubix model.

Elimination Entities

Elimination entities are optional. They are most commonly used in financial consolidation models to enable elimination of inter-company transactions and consolidation adjustments.

Consolidated Entities

Consolidated entities are used for totals and subtotals of underlying input entities and are organised in paths. For example for regional totals or holding company consolidations. Each model must have at least one consolidated entity at the top level, however, many more can be included to give many levels of sub consolidation.

By default a new model will include one consolidation path called ‘Management’ with one consolidated entity called ‘Consol1’.

For each entity, enter the following information:

  • Name – A reference name for the entity. This must be unique and must not contain any spaces or special characters.
  • Description – A description for the entity.
  • Path Parent – The parent consolidated entity for the current entity for each consolidation path defined.
