Acquiring Input Fields

Channel provides the Acquire function to provide an easier way to capture and set up the fields from a source file.

Click on the Acquire button and one of two windows will be displayed.

Acquire Delimited Format

When acquiring from a delimited source file, the fields are automatically identified and added. They can be renamed to something more meaningful if desired.

Acquire Fixed Format

When acquiring from a fixed source, the fields need to be identified.
To start with, no fields are shown but a preview of the content of the first line of the source file is shown in the Line Format box. If you want to preview other lines, click on the line number at the left side of the preview grid.
The next step is to begin the process of marking fields. Fields are marked by square brackets enclosing the field, like this: [Content of the field]

The fields can be renamed to something more meaningful if desired.

Once all fields have been acquired, click OK to return to the Format screen which will now list all the fields.
