Views are user defined and stored browser settings. They allow regularly used browser layouts to be saved and easily recalled at any time.

Views are used when creating or changing browsers. In the Edit Browser window, they can be selected from the Views list and on clicking OK, that browser will be created or updated with the settings as defined when the view was created.

Using views is a very efficient way of working with browsers as it enables very quick changes to pre-defined layouts without the need to open multiple workbooks.

To Create a View

  • Open a blank workbook
  • From the Analysis group in the ribbon, select Browser Manager.
  • Click Add and click on No to the message “Do you wish to create a new workbook for the new browser?”
  • OK to continue.

A Properties dialog box will appear. Enter a name for the view

  • For Type, ensure View is selected from the drop-down list
  • Click Slice to set the dimensions for the view
  • By default, views are associated to individual users, however, they can be shared with all users by ticking Shared.
  • Click OK to confirm your selections and create the new view. This will not open a browser or view on the workbook, however, it will be available for you when you next create or change a browser.

The difference between a Browser and a View

  • A Browser is an Excel workbook with a direct link to the Cubix data
  • A View is a definition for the layout of a browser
  • Multiple browsers can be opened at the same time, but each one resides on a different worksheet or workbook
  • Multiple Views are available for selection in each browser file, but can only be selected one at a time within each individual browser file.
  • A View can only be opened as part of a browser. A view cannot be highlighted from the manager window and opened directly.
