Clubs that are running any programs for person aged 0 – 4 years are advised that this program/activity is to cease immediately.

SLSQ has spent considerable time in discussions with our insurers and we note the following.

  • Our membership commences at 5 years of age. No person under this age can be a member of Surf Life Saving Queensland.
  • Programs currently being run are not approved and whilst some clubs have opted for a special event application – this only covers our members who participate in this program i.e. helpers.
  • Our current insurance has a specific exclusion clause as it related to creche activities – which is what these programs are defined as.
  • Our insurer has also advised that our insurance cannot be extended to cover these programs as the existing risk to this type of program is too high to accept.

The SLSQ Finance, Audit and Risk Committee were presented with this information at their meeting on Tuesday 23 May 2023 and have determined that Surf Babies/Little Lifesavers is not an endorsed activity in any form. This is also extended to the ability to apply for this via the Special Event Application process.

There will be no allowance for approval of this activity via SLSQ.

Clubs are advised if they want to continue running this activity, they will need to seek and maintain their own insurance specific to the program.

SLSQ is committed to ensuring that our members are using approved equipment or participating in approved programs in a safe environment.
