Two options are available for membership application – electronic (SLSA Members Portal) or hard copy format (traditional paper based forms).

New Member

New members to the Association will be required to complete a membership application form either online via Members Area Portal or a hard copy form. Members will be required to fill in their personal details and sign page noting their acceptance of the SLSA declaration. Once the details have been collected, they are entered into SurfGuard to create a personal profile for the member.

For more information on membership refer to SLSQ Lifesaving Website

On completion of the SLSA Membership form, payment of membership fees, and acceptance by the club, members are registered under one of the membership categories and covered under the association’s insurance policies.

Existing Member

Existing members of the Association will be required to renew membership online via SLSA Members Area Portal.

Life Members

Clubs and Branches are to check their constitution relating to their requirements for Life Members to complete/ renew a membership application, however, best practice is that Life Members are required to complete their Membership application annually online via SLSA Members Area.

Transfers

Members may choose to transfer their competitive rights, non-competitive rights or full membership to another Club. Clubs and members must adhere to the rulings as outlined in the Australian Surf Sports Manual (current) Edition and any other association bulletins/ circulars.

A member of an affiliated Club may transfer either at the start of the season, or during the season. SLSQ have a specific process that needs to be completed in order for a member to be successfully transferred, which is:

  • The member can apply for a transfer through their individual Lifesaving Online profile Alternatively the member can request the losing or winning club to apply for a transfer through SurfGuard
  • Once the transfer process has been initiated, the losing club and Branch must approve the member to be released, and then the winning club must accept the member
  • Instructions on transfers are included in the Surfguard help manual

Please be advised that the application was considered by the XXXXXXXX SLSC Board of Management Committee at a meeting on XX/XX/20XX.
As such, and in line with Section (please enter section number of club constitution referring to Discretion to Accept or Reject Application), please be advised that your application has been rejected.

Dual Membership

A member can belong to one or more affiliated Clubs and Branches resulting in a dual membership. Essentially a dual membership allows a member to belong to a number of Clubs in which they may complete lifesaving duties, but not competition duties. There are a number of restrictions around this type of membership, which include:

  • The member must receive clearance from the original Club in order to be a member of another
  • The member can only represent one Club per season in inter-Affiliated Club competition, unless their “competitive rights” have been transferred as outlined in Policy 5.04 SLSA Competition Eligibility.
  • The member can compete in intra-Club events of all such Clubs
