Under the Workers’ Compensation and Rehabilitation Act 2003 any business or entity that has employees are required to hold a WorkCover policy. This is to ensure that the employees are protected against workplace accidents and can be financially supported through the treatment and loss of time that may occur in conjunction with WorkCover Queensland.

All Surf Clubs and Supporters Clubs that have employees defined as a worker under the Act must hold a current WorkCover policy for each entity. In Queensland there is no threshold that must be reached before insuring employees, it is a requirements that any employee that is defined as a worker must be insured within five days of commencing employment.

If the Surf Club or Supporters Club does not hold a current WorkCover policy, the President will need to get in contact with WorkCover Queensland to set up a policy immediately.
