SLSQ has been made aware that members have been operating SLSQ vehicles in an unsafe and unlawful manner. This bulletin refers to the use of lights and sirens whilst driving on public roads.

SLSQ is not exempt from any local, state, or national law which allows such activity. Under the Transport Operations (Road Use Management) Act and Regulations It is an offence, in a life saving vehicle to drive under lights and sirens.

SLSQ is not classified as a relevant emergency service officer under the regulations (schedule 4).

If an incident occurs whilst operating a vehicle in this manner, the member will be in breach of policy and Queensland Legislation risking the loss of insurance coverage. This unsafe action is a high risk to the individual and the organisation that could result in serious fines and even imprisonment.
