Other Service logs are used to record hours members contribute when engaged in other activities outside of patrol duties such as coaching, officiating, education etc.
Surfguard has recently been updated to allow for “other service” categories to be recorded. As such the following positions have been added and can now have hours allocated to them
- TOC – Trainers (including Probationary)
- ASS – Assessors (including Probationary)
- PTAF – Probationary TAF
- SME – Subject Matter/Content Experts
- AM -Age Managers
- COA -Volunteer Coaches
- OFF – Officials (including Probationary)
- CPM – Committee Members
- WS – Water Safety for Education Courses
- VCA – Volunteer Club Activity
- PSO – Peer Support Officer
- DPC – Development Program Coordinator
This will allow Clubs and Branches to log the hours that their members are contributing towards these areas of surf lifesaving.
It is important that Clubs ensure they have necessary log books and/or attendance sheets for any of the items that they are inputting. This may become relevant for proof if a review and/or audit is carried out on your logged hours.
Further, Clubs should ensure that they minute the hours that they are willing to accept towards competition hours. This is an individual decision of the Clubs.
How to log other service hours
Trainers and Assessors & Subject Matter/Content Experts & Probationary TAF’s
Clubs are to use a sign on sheet for Trainers and Assessors that includes the times that they commence and finalise their activities.
Clubs will be able to allocate hours at the finalisation of the course. Please note that Clubs are responsible for adding in assessor’s hours (even if the assessor is external to your Club).
This also include Probationary Trainers and Probationary Assessors.
Clubs are also able to add hours for Subject Matter/Content Experts i.e. members who are not accredited trainers but are assisting in the training e.g. IRB Driver who assists with an IRB course. These members must be included on the sign in sheet with the other trainers and assessors.
Please note hours can only be added for proficient trainers and assessors and Probationary TAFs (if they have had this allocated as an award in Surfguard).
Age Managers
To ensure that another form is not created – Age Managers can sign onto the Patrol Log with Nipper Water Safety ensuring that the acronym (AM) is next to their name.
Only Age Managers with the current Age Managers Accreditation can be allocated hours or for new Age Managers – only those that have completed both the Online Age Managers Award and Observers Award (until their Age Manager Accreditation is allocated)
Volunteer Coaches
Clubs should have attendance sheets for athletes/members at each training session. Volunteer Coaches should sign onto these sheets also.
Officials
Officials can have hours allocated for attendance at Club Championships/Pointscore Days,
Branch and State Events (*). Officials will need to ensure the respective sign on sheet is completed in full or the respective authority will be unable to enter the hours.
Club Events: you must ensure that you have a sign in sheet for all officials in attendance at your event.
Branch Events: Branches have sign on sheets for officials at events. Allocation of these hours is up to the individual Branch to input or arrange input (depending on Surfguard access levels).
SLSQ Events: SLSQ has sign on sheets for State based surf sports events. SLSQ will be responsible for adding in officials’ hours for SLSQ events.
(*) Please note that whilst hours can be added for SLSA run events this is up to SLSA to do. SLSQ cannot control the input of hours from SLSA events
Committee Members
Hours can be allocated at the close of the Committee meetings that the members attend. The minutes will be considered a record of attendance for these hours.
Water Safety for Education Courses
Hours can be allocated for members who participate in water safety for Education Courses. These can be logged as normal water safety hours. Members should sign an attendance sheet for this.
Volunteer Club Activity
Club members contributing in a significant volunteer club activity other than competition.
Please note that this is a matter for the Club to determine but proof of these activities may be required audit
Peer Support Officer
Club members rostered on for Peer Support.
Development Program Coordinator
Club members attending Development Programs as a Coordinator.
