All surf sport training shall be under the direction of a SLSA accredited coach and the coach must be present for the duration of the training session.
Clubs are reminded that the below items need to be completed in relation to all club training sessions:
1. Training Sessions Approval:
- All club endorsed training sessions and schedules must be sanctioned and approved by the Club Management Committee/Board.
- These must be available in Club Management Committee meeting minutes and should form part of the club’s annual calendar.
- The approval should contain at minimum primary location, alternative location, start and finish time/day and coach.
- Clubs should have a standard method to capture attendance (such as an attendance sheet/book) that is used for surf sports training sessions.
- The attendance capture method should include Date/Day, Venue, Time Started/Finished.
- Attendance records should be accessible by the club centrally (eg. with Administration) and must be held by the club for the necessary time periods (along with risk assessments).
3. Risk Assessment:
- Prior to any session commencing, a pre-activity risk assessment must be conducted before each and every training session.
- It is preferred the Surf Risk Rating function of the SLSA Operations App is utilised, however paper Risk Assessments can still be used.

- Please note, SLSQ may have additional requirements surrounding training session requirements which go above the SLSA Policy/Procedure (eg. SLSQ MS13 – High Visibility Policy, etc). Refer 4.1.1. Aquatic Risk Management.
4. Members are Qualified:
- Members must be qualified to utilise any SLS equipment/craft being utilised.
- Refer to 13.8 SLSQ Use of Equipment – Craft.
5. Incident Reporting:
- In the event of an injury, the SLSQ Injury Reporting Procedure should be followed.
- Refer to 8.2 – Member Injuries
6. Copies of Documentation:
- All documentation surrounding surf sports training sessions must be kept by the club in the event they are required in the event of an injury.
