Surf Life Saving Australia (SLSA) and Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) has numerous registered marks that represent our organisation’s proud 100 + years of service in Australia.
These marks are symbolic of our organisation and are used to represent the lifesaving efforts that have saved over 500,000 lives nationally.
The rights to use our trademarks is strictly controlled by SLSA and SLSQ. These marks consist of various names, logos and imagery. Our registered marks include, but are not limited to:
- Red and yellow flags
- Red and yellow cap
- Uniforms
- Images depicting surf lifesaving volunteers and rescue equipment
- Club, Branch and State logos
And the words –
- Surf life saving
- Beach patrol
- Surf patrol
- ‘The Life of the Beach’
- ‘Whatever it Takes’
- Coolangatta Gold
- ‘Australian for Life’
The use of SLSA and SLSQ trademarks may only be approved by SLSA or SLSQ, and must result in providing benefit to our organisation to support our lifesaving endeavours. We must also protect the rights of our national and state sponsors who pay for the privilege of being associated with and using our iconic branding.
Individual surf clubs or surf life saving branch offices, do not hold the authority to grant the use of this intellectual property without first seeking permission from SLSQ.
The unauthorised use of our intellectual property puts at risk our commercial partnerships which in turn fund our lifesaving activities. These actions ultimately affect beach and water safety for the general public throughout the state.
SLSA and SLSQ will vigorously pursue those who use or abuse these trademarks in an unauthorised manner and legal action could result from this type of activity.
